Just over 2 years ago, I built a sauna and bathroom in the basement of our new home. I also finished the family room and built a wine cellar.
Since that time, my wife has asked me to upgrade some of the elements of the basement … for example, she wants me to replace the simple mirror hanging above the sink in the bath/sauna, which you can see in the picture below …
… Then last Christmas my brother-in-law from Thunder Bay brought some black ash (which he cut in the field, sawed/milled to rough and dried himself – he does some very nice furniture too, primarily with this very beautiful wood) which I decided would be good to try for the bathroom pharmacy. You may be able to see the nice grain in the rough pieces below.
So my objective is to replace the simple cedar framed mirror with one made from this black ash … here are some shots of the work as it progressed.
Since I am a little short of black ash, I used some pine to make the back panels as you can see above. I think I have enough ash left to make the shelves and mouldings for the top of the cabinet.
More to come …
