Custom Cabinet or Vanity

I needed more storage space in my shop and also wanted to have a demo cabinet /vanity for my clients … so I designed this cabinet and applied a rustic finish (stain, milk paint & brushed lacquer).

This basic unit can be sized to fit your space and if in the bathroom, modified to accomodate the sink cut out.

I recently bought a special cutter for my shaper. This allows me to offer 5 new profiles for my panels. I have so far only used 2 of these which are shown in the poplar and pine examples which follow. I intend to post the others once I have made some prototypes.

This pine door will be finished with milk paint and installed in the shop cabinet I am currently making for myself. This is one of my preferred profiles.

Next, another popular profile. This door was treated first with potassium dichromate to prepare it for a dark custom stain. Then it was sprayed with 1 coat of sealer, sanded lightly and then sprayed with clear lacquer.

Another popular profile. Solid maple, stained, sealed and lacquered (spray).

Another special treatment for this flat panel within a solid poplar frame. Sprayed with a white base (2 coats), then glazed as shown, then sealed and lacquered. More labour intensive, but a very appealing result.

The door below is solid ash, stained and finished with 3 coats of wiping varnish. Lovely grain patterns here.

Coach House Doors

My neighbours needed custom made wood doors for their “coach house” extension to their country home.

These are made of solid pine … 4 doors with glass top panels …

I am pleased to announce that I have recently partnered with Serge LeClaire Ébéniste (http://www.serge-leclaire-ebeniste.com/) to offer quality custom kitchen cabinetry.

Characteristics of a typical kitchen:

Standard height & depth lower (34 ¾ X 23 ¾) and upper cabinets (33 X 12 5/8)
Cabinet frame components (including shelves) of 5/8″ melamine – common maple or white colour; option for other colours
Frame construction – stapled and screwed
Solid wood doors and drawer faces
Floating panels – flat or raised panels – choice of styles
Exposed panels made of matching laminate or option for matching raised panels
Wood components = poplar or soft maple (option to choose another wood – will impact the price)
Matching foot plate, cache-neon and crown moulding
Wood finish – stain or paint (not recommended for solid wood)
Sprayed lacquer seal
Pantry - 3 or 4 full extension drawers/shelves
Drawer boxes – melamine; option for other choices
option for doors with glass panels
Countertop – presswood with engineered laminate – choice of colour/pattern, or you can arrange for marble, granite, etc. yourself

Mission Bookcase – delivered

Here is a pic of the completed bookcase.

The 4 shelves are adjustable. There are floating panels on each side and 2 on the back. I used a “clover” milk paint to stain this a very light green which allows the grain (poplar) to show. It was sealed with 6 coats of tung oil.

Not visible in these photos is a carved Confederate flag on the bottom rail of each side. The bookcase is to house a collection of Civil War books.
